VoiceWorks with Bisia
Renew Recharge Refresh Your Human Spirit
Innovative, informative and revitalizing voice and movement series
that developed after the release of Bisia’s first CD “THirsty Desert” that was entirely based on improvisation.
Bisia has been a registered massage therapist for 25 years and a singer for
over 30. She combines both of her consuming interests into classes, Vocal Body workshops and self care intensives to teach people to deal with their ‘unnecessary tensions”.
She expanded her vision and mandate to offer these tools to the general public and began offering VoiceWorks classes and stress management workshops and recently Vocal.Body classes and intensives.
She strongly believes that expressive arts have a huge impact on one’s mental, emotional and physical health. “
Her voice work with groups ”VOCAL IMPROVIZATION AND COMPASSION BURNOUT” was documented and aired by Vision TV,( featuring the staff at Mary Manning Center in Victoria BC, Peggy Mahoney director) and her vocal piece “Angels of Harmony” played nationally on CBC Radio (2000).
Currently she is on the faculty of Hospice Victoria and is part of their week long educational conference on psychosocial care for the caregiver. She taught at Royal Roads University for the continuing education department in the emerging field of Arts and Health, and offers creative workshops at Pearson College in their summer arts program (MISSA). Her ongoing drop in classes continue weekly and special projects keep surfacing.
VoiceWorks is continually expanding into the field of Arts and Health. At present, Bisia is engaging with people recovering from brain injury, incorporating various new modalities such as Brain Gym and Feldenkrais in combination with vocal techniques and movement to help victims reorganize their traumatized brains.. In September of this year Bisia teams up with Marianne van der Mej and Susan Simosko on the pilot project they began 4 years ago, with groups of immigrant and refugee women thru the Intercultural Association of Victoria.
